Halloweenis a holiday that falls on October 31st each year in North America and otherparts of the world. Like many other holidays, Halloween has evolved and changedthroughout history. In the past people believed that the spirits of the deadwould visit the earth on Halloween. They worried that evil spirits would causeproblems or hurt them. On that night people wore costumes that looked likeghosts or other evil creatures. They thought if they dressed like that, thespirits would think they were also dead and not harm them. These days Halloweenis primarily a fun day for children. Children dress up in costumes like peopledid a thousand years ago. But instead of worrying about evil spirits, they gofrom house to house. They knock on doors and say "trick or treat."The owner of each house gives candy or something special to each child trick ortreating.
AtHuamei Kindergarten we continued the tradition of Halloween on Thursday,October 29th. Early in the morning the children dressed up and got ready for theHalloween fun. Everybody met in the Kindergarten courtyard and awaited thestart of the Halloween celebration. After a short Halloween introduction withour hosts' Mandy and Noel the children danced the Monster Mash with all theforeign teachers and went for a costume parade on campus to show off theirbeautiful costumes.
Thechildren then went from classroom to classroom to trick or treat after theyreturned to the kindergarten. The special highlight this year was The HauntedHouse. This year the foreign teachers set up the haunted house in the potteryroom and designed it to be fun for Junior-, medium- and senior classes.
Therewere different station such as a texture station with goop, eyeballs andbrains, a creepy tunnel, different creatures hanging down the ceiling and scaryghosts.
Itwas a great day, all the children and teachers enjoyed it and had a lot of fun.
