Primary School American Class Halloween
As a schoolmixing eastern and western culture, Huamei School held a variety ofcelebrations for Halloween. Halloween is one of the American Culture Yearactivities at Huamei. On this day, the kids wear all kinds of bizarre costumes andmasks and make pumpkin lamps (jack-o-lanterns) and keep saying: “trick or treat”.It is a tradition that kids go to each house to ask for candy. If the househosts didn’t give them the treat, the kids would play tricks on them.
Two weeks ago,The international teachers in the Primary School Department’s American Class prepareda special Halloween activity. This year’s Halloween celebration was delayedthree weeks, so this year’s Halloween became more special. Compare with lastyear’s Halloween, this year had not just the Primary School kids, but alsoMiddle School students. The seniors prepared some delicious deserts for thelittle kids and helped them dress up.
Not only did theinternational teachers arranged various activities, but also the American Classkids prepared some programs. The kids from the Sixth Grade introduced thedifferent kinds of Halloween celebrations in different countries. The FifthGrade kids presented a “horrid” Halloween drama. The First Grade kids sang Halloweensongs and so on. As well, there were competitions for face paintings and so on.The kids had a great time.
This Halloweenlasted more than three hours. Though it was a long time, instead of being tired,the kids were lingering afterwards. The activity came to an end when kids gotmore candies in their pockets. Through this activity, the kids gained a deeper understandingof Halloween culture, and also enjoyedtheir time.
