Frankly saying, I am not really the best choice for this program. I wasn’t ready.
There were some medical conditions I had on me which would potentially cause troubles to the others. I had a surgery cut on my left arm and a couple fake tooth in my mouth, before I came I was really concerned that something might go wrong and effect the whole experience, it unfortunately something did happened, my fake tooth broke.
I feel sorry for causing unnecessary troubles and at the same time moved by the kindness our Indonesian friends possessed. They cared and worried and send me to clinic and arranges the surgery of taking the stitches out. Taking your partner to a clinic in the middle of school time just for a fake tooth sound ridiculous right? But that was what my partner did, don’t know where I would end up without them. Indonesian people were friendly, they wanted to make friend with us, but while I lost my tooth I also lost half of my confidence, I became the person who seem like he doesn’t want to make friend with anybody, I feel sorry and I apologise. I tried to accept it and wanting to let it go but what happened was that when you realised how you looks like when you talk, it was hard to get used to. I feel like I let everyone down. But what surprised me the most is that my Indonesian friend were not giving up on me, they were still trying to get me out of that which I did later thanks to all the unique Indonesian Food they filled me with and their kindness.
Seeing how generous and amazing people are here in Indonesia and how reckless and negative I was, I have decided when I was standing at the edge of Sanggar Agung temple looking at the infinite ocean that I had to be better at being a proper human being, being responsible, think ahead, eager to learn from better people instead of running away from them, don’t drown in your comfort zone, be positive, this is what all the accident happen in these couple of days taught me.
About the tours. They are really well planned out and the historical places really gave you a chance to re-imagine what happened in the past history and in what ways were they significant and what can you learn from them, it is always fascinating to learn about the why and hows about historical places or events. However, what interest me the most was actually how their tourism industry work, every traditional market we went to was almost selling the same product, and the number of sale stands is huge, it took us around half an hour to just simply walk through a sale area. It seemed that the souvenir industry was controlled by one big company and it was able to provide living for hundreds and thousands of people. Mass production of souvenirs was undoubtedly a very good solution to the lack of job but at the same time I was disappointed about the lost of originality and taste of culture.
Next week we will be experiencing differences between HBIC school life and Frateran school life. Looking forward to making new friends and learning more about Frateran. Not going to let my friends down again.
